Christian Ministry

At First United, we have an active and expanding Christian Education Program.  Our ministry begins from birth and encompasses our entire congregation.  Our Sunday School material begins on Sunday and has related follow-up activities available online.  This program gives families more opportunities to discuss Sunday School topics at home during the week.

Our program is not limited to Sunday School activities.  We attempt to instill good stewardship in our youth by involving them in missions such as our School Kit program (through Lutheran World Relief), in which we pack individual bags of school supplies to be handed out to children and adults in poorer nations and refugee areas of the world.  In 2005 alone, we sent out over 180 kits, which were packed by the Sunday School children.  This year we also collected soap for Lutheran World Relief and brought in over 500 bars for this worthy cause.

Although these are very serious activities, we also like to have fun!  On Easter Sunday, we have an Easter Egg Hunt complete with hidden eggs and treats provided by the congregation.  We host breakfast several times throughout the year, giving families another opportunity for fellowship.  We are also very proud of our annual Christmas Program.  Our plays range from the traditional depiction of the Nativity story to more modern stories of faith.  No matter which play the children put on, it is always a favorite event of the congregation.

During the summer, we offer Vacation Bible School not only to our members, but to the surrounding neighborhood.  Children engage in Bible stories, games, snacks, crafts and movies in a safe, fun and relaxed atmosphere.
