Welcome to First United Lutheran Church! We are a growing, multi-generational ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) congregation located in Hammond, Indiana. We are a progressive, friendly congregation. And we always find it exciting to welcome newcomers to worship with us. On this website, you will find out a little more about us and we welcome the opportunity to assist you in your journey of faith. "Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." Romans 15:7 Our Mission Statement We are dedicated to continue the mission of Christ on earth; to be continuously renewed by celebrating the life of Christ through worship, witness and example; to grow in faith through preaching, teaching and fellowship; and to share our time, talents and possessions to serve others. We do all these things out of love for Jesus Christ, Who said, “This I command you, to love one another.” Our Pastor, Bassam Abdallah, was born in Jerusalem. He attended college at the University of Louisville and completed his theological studies at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He also received clinical education at the Spring Grove State Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied further at the United Theological Seminary and the California School of Theology. Pastor Abdallah was ordained within the Indiana- Kentucky Synod at Christ Lutheran Church of Jeffersontown, Kentucky in 1977. Pastor Abdallah ministered at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant, Indiana from 1977 until 1989, when he came to our congregation. Pastor Abdallah, and his wife, Katy, were married in 1977. They have one son, Joseph. They are all very active in church activities including teaching Sunday school classes, and participating in various committee and social activities. Pastor Abdallah maintains an open-door policy and is always excited at the prospect of bringing new members to our steadily-growing congregation.
